The Republic of Panama has one of the most prosperous economies in Latin America, but its also one of the most unequal. It is home to the Panama Canal, an international banking center, dozens of multinational corporations, and countless shell companies, yet 25% of the population lives in poverty. These contrasts are particularly striking in Panama City, especially between the gentrified paradise that is Casco Antiguo and the neighboring slums, whose inhabitants live in multidimensional poverty and are excluded from economic and social development processes. The Enlaces program works with the children and teenagers of these communities, providing them with a safe environment where they learn to respect others, their bodies and their ideas through contemporary dance and academic and psychosocial support. Enlaces is not an architectural project, but one that seeks to counteract the negative effects of Panamanian architecture and urban planning. Enlaces reconstructs the city by repairing its social fabric.

Sketch, an architecture practice based in Panama City, has always supported Enlaces in all its design needs, including graphics, stage design and the selection and transformation of its dance studios, workshops and study spaces. For CAB 5, they present “The distance between two points is not always a straight line”, a two-channel video starring José Garrido, the first Enlaces graduate who continued his studies in Rotterdam and now dances professionally for a company in Germany. His moving body contrasts with the textures of the Panama where he grew up, dancing in a duo of flesh and urban fabric. The soundtrack, by Louis Navas and Iñaki Iriberri, references the heat and beats of urban Panama looped and chopped together with sounds sampled from of the neighborhoods of Santa Ana, Barraza and El Chorrillo, further exploring the stories of personal growth in these challenging social environments.

La República de Panamá tiene una de las economías más prósperas de América Latina, pero también una de las más desiguales. Aquí está el Canal de Panamá, y es la sede de un centro bancario internacional, decenas de multinacionales e innumerables sociedades anónimas, pero aún así el 25% de la población vive en la pobreza. Estos contrastes son especialmente llamativos en la ciudad de Panamá, sobre todo entre el paraíso gentrificado que es el Casco Antiguo y los barrios marginales vecinos, cuyos habitantes viven en una pobreza multidimensional y están excluidos de los procesos de desarrollo económico y social. El proyecto Enlaces trabaja con los niños y adolescentes de estas comunidades, proporcionándoles un entorno seguro donde aprenden a respetar a los demás, a sus cuerpos y sus ideas a través de la danza contemporánea y el apoyo académico y psicosocial. Enlaces no es un proyecto arquitectónico, sino uno que busca contrarrestar los efectos negativos de la arquitectura y el urbanismo panameños. Enlaces reconstruye la ciudad reparando su tejido social.

Sketch, un estudio de arquitectura con sede en la Ciudad de Panamá, siempre ha apoyado a Enlaces en todas sus necesidades de diseño, incluyendo gráficos, escenografías y la selección y transformación de sus estudios de danza, talleres y espacios de estudio. Para la CAB 5, presentan "La distancia entre dos puntos no siempre es una línea recta", un video a dos canales protagonizado por José Garrido, el primer graduado de Enlaces que continuó sus estudios en Rotterdam y ahora baila profesionalmente para una compañía en Alemania. Su cuerpo en movimiento contrasta con las texturas del Panamá donde creció, bailando en un dúo de carne y tejido urbano. La banda sonora, por Louis Navas e Iñaki Iriberri, hace referencia al calor y a los ritmos de la Panamá urbana, mezclados con sonidos de los barrios de Santa Ana, Barraza y El Chorrillo para explorar las historias de crecimiento personal en estos entornos sociales tan difíciles.
